The new meets the old...

In their best light, suburban malls have fostered their own certain style of architecture, that will go down in the history books, as unique, if not inspired. The newest twist on suburban architecture is a recycling movement. Nowadays, as cities expand beyond the outer limits of what was once considered the buffer between urban and rural, the new catchphrase is "ex-urban"-- it reminds me of the Oort Cloud... that galactic prairie between here and somewhere else.

In the ex-urban development frenzy, the latest craze is to clone the old architecture from the central city with the 'burbs. It's better than a big cinderblock box, with a brick veneer facade, but it's not very forward thinking. I hope that the architects from the 18th and 19th centuries, and even the 20th century, were not the last innovators.
