Comfort food 

It's been a typically topsy-turvy winter here in Kentucky, with a snowstorm before Christmas, then a heatwave that melted everything, followed by a real deep-freeze. Even though I really don't like cold weather, it's one of the reasons I like living here. The contrasts keep things interesting. It keeps me inside more than usual though, but that's ok; I just wish I had a fireplace, or even a virtual one. I don't think the ones you watch on tv provide much heat, though-- just virtual warmth.

One of the things that can keep you warm and cozy on a winter's night, is a good pot of bean soup or chili; anything to keep the stove hot, and your belly full. I love things that take their time to cook, and give the house that intense seasoned aroma. Come to think of it, French onion soup sounds really good right about now, with some hot cornbread...
